This series is inspired by four different species of lizard.  All feature very vibrant colors and a lot of body language to further suggest personality of the different species.  I think reptiles lend themselves so well as subject matter for this type of artwork, because the natural beauty of their skin and the various markings can easily become tiny flowers or geometric patterns in my clay.  I even have very tiny green lizards as part of the pattern.  The tiny lizards can be seen climbing the ribcage of the first gecko of the series.  I especially enjoyed the second piece inspired by the Meller’s Chameleon.  In nature, they appear as such bizarre creatures, almost unearthly with their separately rotating eyes.  The sculpture looks both prehistoric, and yet whimsical and friendly at the same time.  The third piece of this series was inspired by a young Bearded Dragon and is my most involved piece to date.  He was truly challenging and I tried to pack him full of sass and attitude.  The fourth piece is based on a adolescent Day Gecko.  I wanted his body language to show him as shy and uncertain.  I hope you can tell how much I enjoyed creating this series.
